As the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) set out regulatory frameworks for heat networks to drive the UK towards net zero by 2050, @techUK have published a report this week, highlighting the enormous potential of Data Centre Heat Export in the UK, and its challenges.
The report focuses on district heating, where heat from a central location is distributed to several other locations across an area. With a huge amount of waste heat coming from data centres each year, globally, the idea is for data centres to create a sustainable energy cycle for local communities, at scale.
